CD Projekt Red Postponed Next Generation Version of The Witcher 3

CD Projekt Red has announced that they will be delaying the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as they bring the rest of the porting in-house.

The development team’s changes to the next-gen upgrade were revealed via a tweet from the Witcher series Twitter account. “We have decided to let our in-house development team do the rest of the work on the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,” he reads in a tweet. “We are currently evaluating the scope of work to be done, so we should postpone the Q2 launch until further notice.” Subsequent messages will say “We will update you as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding.”

Saber Interactive was a company working on ports of The Witcher 3 to new consoles from Sony and Microsoft, and previously partnered with CD Projekt on a Switch port of the same game. No reason has been given for Saber to no longer participate, nor is there a timeline for a new projected launch period.

In recent months, CD Projekt has been full of next-gen ports of Cyberpunk 2077, released in February, and still plans to expand the game with new content. The studio also announced that a new chapter in the Witcher franchise is coming and will run on Unreal Engine 5 instead of their in-house developed REDengine.
