Crystal Dynamics Announces New Tomb Raider Game Powered by Unreal Engine 5

A new Tomb Raider game has been announced, but the title has not been revealed.

Crystal Dynamics, in today’s State of Unreal 2022 presentation, revealed that development of their next Tomb Raider game has just begun and will be developed entirely on Unreal Engine 5. But if you’re looking for more about the game, sadly that’s all. that’s shared.

Full text from Dallas Dickinson, Franchise General Manager, Tomb Raider, Crystal Dynamics:

“Crystal Dynamics is proud to be part of the launch of Unreal Engine 5. This new engine takes the storytelling and gameplay experience to the next level. That’s why we’re excited to announce today that we’ve started developing our next Tomb Raider game powered by Unreal Engine 5. Our goal is to push the limits of fidelity and deliver high-quality, cinematic action-adventure experiences. This is what fans deserve in both the Crystal Dynamics and Tomb Raider franchises.”

What to expect from this Tomb Raider game will continue the story of Crystal Dynamics’ recent trilogy (with the help of Eidos-Montréal in the finale). But that’s pure speculation. There is always a chance that Crystal Dynamics will reboot the Tomb Raider once again, just like it did in 2013. However, since the studio has always referred to the trilogy reboot as the story of Lara Croft’s origins, perhaps this new Unreal Engine 5 powered Tomb Raider will be the first game on the reboot timeline, and Lara Croft won’t let many people use the word “Tomb Raider”. This is the Tomb Raider that you think of when you hear it. Only time will tell.
