Game of Thrones prequel series House of Dragons premiere in August

The House of Dragons, a prequel series of Game of Thrones centered on the Targaryens, will premiere on August 21, HBO announced on Twitter today.

Streaming exclusively through HBO Max, the 10-part series takes place 200 years before the Game of Thrones events where the Targaryens were still in power. However, House of the Dragon centers around the internal chaos that led to their downfall, specifically the civil war known as the Dance of Dragons. The show was written by author George R.R. Inspired in part by Martin’s 2018 book Fire & Blood.

It stars Matt Smith (Prince Demon Targaryen), Olivia Cooke (Lady Elite Hightower), Paddy Considin (Viserys I Targaryen), and Emma Darcy (Princess Raenira Targaryen). Writers and producers Ryan J. Condal (Rampage, Colony) and George R.R. Martin is the main showrunner.
