Here's how the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl sold compared to others

Nintendo has released its fiscal 2021-22 financial results, which include updated numbers for the long-running Pokémon series.

In the results, Nintendo calls Pokémon its own franchise, which may be considered untrue by some as an independent party, Game Freak, develops most Pokémon games. However, Nintendo is investing heavily in franchising, and Pokémon games have always been released exclusively for Nintendo consoles. So it’s hard to call it a first party franchise. In that sense, Pokémon was Nintendo’s most successful asset in the fiscal year that began in April 2021 and ended last March.

More specifically, the latest 4th-generation Sinnoh remakes, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl, have already sold 14.65 million copies, despite being released in November of last year. However, these remakes aren’t the only new Pokemon games released in fiscal 2021-22. Pokémon Legends: Arceus launched on the Switch in January, with 12.64 million units sold.

Even Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, which started Gen 8 on the Switch in 2019, had a great year selling 3.18 million copies. And Pokémon: Let’s go, Pikachu! And Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! It also sold 125 million copies.

From Serebii.net Joe Merrick has released an updated chart with sales figures for all major Pokemon games, including new totals for the games Remakes, Legends: Arceus, Sword and Shield, and Let’s Go.

As you can see, Sword and Shield continues to climb near the top, second only to the original Kanto Pokémon game. The Sinnoh remake is almost exactly in the middle of the pack in terms of sales, and Legends: Arceus is near the bottom. It’s important to remember that Legends: Arceus is throwing away the old Pokémon formula focused on catching and learning Pokémon, only a few months away from these financial results and the new start of the franchise.

Elsewhere in the financial results, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to sell gangbusters. With 9.94 million to be exact, the total total has risen to a maximum of 45.33 million, making it the best-selling Switch game of all time. The next closest Switch title was Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which sold 38.64 million copies.
