John Romero Launches New Doom 2 Levels To Raise Funds For Ukraine

Doom II co-creator John Romero has announced a new level of famed FPS, 100% of the proceeds go to the People of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Red Cross and the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund.

The last time Romero released a new level for Doom II was in 1994 when the game was released. That said, this new level, called One Humanity, is Romero’s first game level in 28 years as first reported by Video Games Chronicle. Levels can be purchased from Romero’s website and cost approximately $7.

“One Humanity is a new level in the 1994 id Software release Doom II, created by John Romero to support the humanitarian efforts of the people of Ukraine and the Red Cross and the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund,” Romero writes on his website. % of the proceeds go towards these support initiatives. One Humanity is Romero’s first Doom II level since the original release in 1994. The .WAD contains a readme text file and external mod data. Players are a modern source port to play Doom II and one Humanity.”

As noted by VGC, Romero stated on Twitter that there are no fees associated with this. He said “Revenue = Profit”.

The news comes amid ongoing conflict in Ukraine after Russia publicly attacked and invaded Ukraine last week. The invasion began several weeks after tensions between the two countries escalated. Hundreds of Ukrainians have been killed since the initial invasion last week and as the world watches this historic and terrifying event unfold, game-wide efforts like Romero have been put in place to help Ukraine.

Last week, 11 Bit Studios announced that money raised from the sale of their most popular title, This War of Mine, will be donated to the Ukrainian Red Cross. Other developers such as GSC Game World, Bungie and others have since expressed their solidarity with Ukraine.
