Kamigawa Neon Dynasty Teaser Shows Magic's First Technologically Advanced Airplane
It’s not a secret. Magic: Gathering returns to one of the most requested planes in Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. A few years ago, Wizards of the Coast said you wouldn’t be able to see a Japanese-inspired place recreated on its own set. Today we’re taking a first look at what the Kamigawa currently looks like, full of brighter lighting and advanced technology than we’ve ever seen at Magic before.

Set 1000 years after the original three expanded Kamigawa blocks in 2005, the Neon Dynasty adds a touch of Japanese flavor to these classic sets and a unique cyberpunk style. A brief video attached to the tweet above shows all kinds of visuals you don’t normally see in Magic. LED panda masks, neon-lit metropolises, may or may not be holograms are screaming that this is not a leap for airplanes, but the game itself.
Before the Neon Dynasty, there were complex machines and artifacts, but most of them were mysterious and primitive in nature compared to what Kamigawa residents use today. Even guns are rarely seen printed on cardboard, so the chances of a western plane as wild as a return to Kamigawa are slim. As Magic expands its tech horizons with ninjas and samurai, we hope to see more of the concepts available for the game as well. Another upcoming set full of daemon mafia and noir aesthetics, Streets of New Cappena will rely on more realistic modern weapons.

Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty will launch on Magic: The Gathering Arena on February 10th, with the full physical set coming out in a week. We’ll be seeing more expansions tonight on Wizard’s weekly Magic Twitch stream. This expansion will feature lots of art, chests and booster packaging, and some cards and mechanics as usual when the set’s pre-orders start.
