New Report Says Call Of Duty Will Skip 2023

For the first time in nearly 20 years, Activision Blizzard’s Call of Duty franchise will be shut down by a year, according to a new report from Bloomberg.

This means there will be no mainline Call of Duty games in 2023, a massive shift in the franchise with new items released every year since 2005. According to a Bloomberg report, Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard was delayed from that year in 2023 as a result of Call of Duty: Vanguard. This series was released in 2021. Vanguard didn’t live up to expectations, and some executives within the publishing house feel that new iterations of Call of Duty are released too often to have as much impact as their predecessors.

This decision has nothing to do with Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. In fact, Microsoft doesn’t have control over the publisher because this acquisition won’t close until next year at the earliest.

Following Activision Blizzard’s three studio rotations to develop Call of Duty items (Infinity Ward developed one, Treyarch developed Call of Duty the following year, and Sledgehammer the following year a third before returning to Infinity Ward) ), which is scheduled for 2023, the game is being developed by Treyarch. Treyarch’s Call of Duty will require at least one more year of development, but according to a Bloomberg report, Activision Blizzard will have other projects to fill its 2023 release schedule.

Developed by Infinity Ward, the new Call of Duty, the sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare, is still due this year and is one of Activision Blizzard’s content pipelines into 2023. However, the report does not specify whether this is a Call of Duty game or not.
