Senua's Saga: Hellblade II Gameplay Revealed at Game Awards

Tonight at the annual Game Awards show, developer Ninja Theory debuts Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II gameplay.

The trailer opens with the main character Senua entering a cave with his companions, and an incredibly large, human-like beast comes out. After the giant beast enters the cave and falls to the wall, the team attacks the monster and burns it. Soon after, Senua’s team is in flames and the Beast tries to counterattack the attackers. Finding the surviving Senua and the rest of his allies, the crew desperately flees and retreats to retaliate if possible.

Senua and her team’s efforts to take down the beast are unsuccessful as they continue to pursue them outside the cave, destroying surrounding structures. The trailer ends with a creature asking Senua for help. Senua replies, “I know you,” while one of the voices in her head says “It’s you.” The trailer ends there.

Host Geoff Keighley said at the end of the trailer that what we’re seeing isn’t the movie, it’s the actual gameplay. It’s hard to say how interactive what was shown in the trailer was actually, but the trailer, seemingly, seemed to indicate that at least some of it was actually cinematic. At the very least, it makes sense that everything we’re seeing runs within the engine.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II is coming to Xbox Series X/S and PC. Also available through Xbox’s Game Pass subscription service. No release date specified.
